The Wine

22 Pirates was created to employ the finest Rhone Varietals grown on our estate. The wine is a distinct representation of the harmony and balance that can be created when using all or some of the 22 Varietals. Each Vintage’s unique blend offers a bold structure of powerful fruit accompanied by an elegant palate appeal from the use of only the finest French Oak. Small batch fermentations coupled with extended oak aging give rise to a complex and dynamic wine that stands alone or can be paired with an exquisite meal.

The Vineyards

The grapes for 22 Pirates are sourced from sustainably farmed vineyards yielding the highest quality for the wine and the environment. The winemaker Jason Robideaux collaborates closely with the vineyard manager to ensure optimal quality and ripeness that provides a balance that shows through in the wine.

The Team

Jason, wine makerJason Robideaux – Director of Winemaking
Jason Robideaux cut his teeth in the wine industry, after earning a degree in Enology from California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo, with Taz Vineyards in Paso Robles. At Taz Vineyards Jason was introduced to Central Coast Rhone Varietals and quickly became enamored with the wines they created. He took this knowledge to the Hunter Valley in Australia where he honed his skills with Australian Rhones and the different styles of wines that could be expressed. In 2007 he joined the Clos LaChance Winery team where he quickly rose to Director of Winemaking. His passion for Rhone varietals coupled with the entrepreneurial spirit of the Clos LaChance team led to the launch of a unique brand which idolized the use of all things Rhone, and 22 Pirates was born.

“Wine doesn’t start its life in a tank or a barrel, it starts in the vineyard. No one has ever made an outstanding wine from the use of inferior grapes. We put a lot into our vineyards and we put a lot of emphasis on our grape sourcing, that’s how you make great wine.”
