Halloween Candy and Wine Pairing

Carve the pumpkins, set up the decorations and pop open the wine, Halloween is almost here! Yes, wine is a must this time of year and nothing is better than 22 Pirates, complete with a backstory filled with deception and mischievous intentions. But what candies pair best with this Rhône style blend? Let’s find out!
Let’s be honest, no kid needs as much candy as they receive when trick-or-treating. Do I advise you to literally take candy from your babies…no…but “borrowing” is never a bad thing, right? Plus, this is a great chance for your kids to practice the art of sharing! A sweet treat for you and a valuable lesson for the kids – win, win!
Okay, we have established that dipping into the candy stash is a solid plan, but which ones are most enjoyable with 22 Pirates? Check out the video to see firsthand which candies are a swimming success and which candies should sleep with the fishes. Note, a few didn't make it to the final cut of the video, but below is the full list of the candies we tried!
Must Haves:
- Peanut M&M’s
- Plain M&M’s
- Twix
- Candy Corn (not great but not bad either!)
- Strawberry Laffy Taffy
- Snickers
- Butter Finger
- Baby Ruth
Don’t Do It:
-
Banana Laffy Taffy
-
Sweet Tart
-
Crunch (surprising, I know!)
-
Nerds
Yes…you might see a theme here, chocolate-based candies are a clear winner, but there were a few surprises that kept us on our toes. Honestly, the best part was trying everything, plus, nothing was truly terrible when finished with a generous sip of 22 Pirates! So, although you now know which ones we recommend, the truth is the best plan is to play the game yourself. Let us know in the comments which pairing you enjoyed the most too!
